Thaliyal Mahadeva Temple

This temple is situated at thaliyal near to karamana,Trivandrum,Kerala. The exact location is
http://wikimapia.org/170421/Thaliyal-Mahadeva-Temple-Major  . This is a temple of lord shiva. The temple will be opened from 5 am to 10 am and 5 pm to 8 pm daily.Special poojas will be there on mondays (swayamvara pooja, swayam vara pushpanjali). The legend aboout this temple is that :

Shiva's search for the recalcitrant bull led him to the nearby village of Thaliyal, on the banks of the river Karamana. In a conciliatory gesture, Shiva appeared before Nandi, with his consort and gave him permission to take up permanent residence there and in recognition of his courageous and independent stand, offered him food. In memory of this incident, to this day, during the annual Kanthalloor festival, Shiva, accompanied by Vishnu and Brahma, stops by at the Thaliyal Shiva temple to offer food to Nandi and thereafter proceeds for `aarattu' (the ceremonial bath) in the Thaliyal temple pond.

There are vigrahas of ganapathy, hanuman, nandi, and nagar.Poojas for all vigrahas will be there daily.Kodiyettu will be there during the month of february.

Yes this is one temple of lord Shiva where all the devotees (even if there is a crowd) can see the main diety at the time of pooja since the Shiva Linga is so scientifically positioned that it is visible to even the Devotee who stands outermost.

Further if any one can worship the Diety continously (unintrupted 41 days)at 5 am when the temple opens daily he/she is sure to get his/her wishes fullfilled. But mind you lord Shiva will make all possible hurdles to test his devotee.

A good number of Bhajan songs are sung by a dedicated Bhajana Sangom on all Mondays and Thursdays in the evening from 6.45 pm to 7.45 pm that is really so pleasing to the ear

A powerful temple of Lord Shiva. A MUST VISIT PLACE FOR A HINDU

Hey

You are perfectly right. This is a must visit temple for all Hindus. This Shivarathi I had gone there with some of the friends .I was really tired and as I was travelling since earling morning to visit 12 temples. But here I was given a packet containing Iddly and chutney. Usually I am reluctant to eat food given free to public . I usually thing that it is ment for the poor only(I don't mean I am rich but only that I am a self sufficent pensioner). But my friend leela teacher who was with me forced me to take the packet saying that today I can take the packet since I wont be in my house in time to take breakfast, which I half heartedly did.To tell you the thruth I was surprised at the excellent quality of the food. I initially thought that it was prasadam but I was corrected by a nearby person that this food was break fsat food for 2000 people was being sponsered by the bajan sangam of the temple.

I told this to my daughter and her husband who visited the temple in the evening. You have rightly said that inspite of a heavy crowd for deeparadhana at 6.45 pm each and every one could seen the shivaling during deeparadan.

I shall now visit the temple again on some monday so as to hear the bajana. People shoul promote such bajana during festivals instead of cinematic songs/comedy during temple festivals

Bye

I chanced to read a supplement brought out by the Malayalam Daily "Mangalam" on the Shivarathri day of this year 2012.
They have elucidated the history of this magnificent temple. It is a pity that such old and important temples have not got any proper recognition in the present world when relatively newly built temples have shot into prominence by virtue of the work of trustee members.
I join with you to congratulate this small bhajan sangam for having taken the effort of propagating the the existence and importance of this temple to people staying at far off places.
